Catalogue Note

PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed "Mrs Heber from her affectionate friend the Author". Mrs. Heber was the wife of the Bishop of Calcutta in whose house the author spent some months recuperating.

Abel was naturalist to Lord Amherst's embassy and a number of the plates are of natural history subjects, including a fine orang-utang. The description of the voyage includes Java, Hong Kong, Manilla and a sea fight with Malays.
