THE PHILLIPPS COPY. “The book was written to advance Beeckman’s ideas for trade with ‘the greatest island of all the Indian Seas’, and describes his 1713 voyage there in the Eagle Galley. This work includes the first European reference to the Indonesian orang-utan, which is depicted in one of the plates” (Hill).
