Description

privatte collection, Lombardy, Italy

Condition

Overall the condition of the stone is good with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. Quite a lot of the original polychromy survives. The Virgin's mantle would once have been gilt, but most of the gilding is lost, leaving traces of dark green ground. There is virtually no polychromy to the reverse. There are some losses to the ground at Her feet, and some chips and dents elsewhere. Christ's head is reattached, there is a metal support to the reverse, and glue residues.
