Description
- Pendant Crucifix
- rock crystal, with gold mounts adorned with gold filigree and enamel, suspended with three freshwater pearls
- Italian, 16th century
the rock crystal inscribed: INRI
Provenance
with Charles Ratton, Paris
Condition
Overall the condition of the pendant is good with minor dirt and wear consistent with age. The mounts may be later, since the symbols of the passion are partly obscured by them. There are a few very minor chips to the rock crystal and there are some naturally occurring inclusions suspended in the material. Some of the enameling is lost, and most of it is slightly abraded and could have been slightly restored in the past. There are a few slight nicks and losses to the filigree, pressure has been applied in some areas. There is a larger loss to the filigree on the right arm mount. There are traces of dirt where the mounts meet the rock crystal.
