Catalogue Note
Anselmo Galmuzzi was a Milanese sculptor working in the second half of the nineteenth century. He had a studio at number 36, Corso di Porta Nuova, from which he produced mainly genre scenes in marble, such as the present example. Galmuzzi was well-known in the last decades of the century when his sculptures were much in demand amongst the wealthy bourgeoisie of Lombardy for decorating their domestic interiors. He achieved international success, obtaining an honorable mention in the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889.
