Catalogue Note
Between 1917 and 1921 the firm of S.W. Partridge published four Dickens novels retold by Ethel Lindsay. These drawings appear to comprise complete sets of illustrations for Oliver Twist and David Copperfield, (c. 1917) together with Little Nell and the Old Curiosity Shop and Barnaby Rudge (c. 1921). It is rare for complete sets of Dickens illustrations to be offered for sale. A number of illustrations carry comments ("Please refine Dolly's face... she is rather too fat-faced...")
