Catalogue Note
Richard Bertram Ogle (fl. 1920-1962) is known as a portrait painter who also illustrated books for children. Volumes include Stories from the Arabian Nights (1928), King Arthur and His Knights (1929) and Old English Fairy Stories (1930). In 1941 the Livingstone Press published Tales from Livingstone by Joyce Reason. This was illustrated with black and white line drawings by S.E. Iredale but included four colour illustrations (including upper cover and frontispiece) by Ogle. The majority of the drawings in this portfolio, therefore, appear to be unpublished and may have been abandoned due to wartime publishing austerity.
