Catalogue Note
'Štyrský's passion for collage inspired caricature. In 1936 and 1937, Antonin Pelc created a number of caricatures in which Štyrský typically appeared as the owner of a "shop selling real objects". In this manner, Štyrský was associated with the Surrelaistic objects, the bizarre configurations of fragments from reality, found in his collages...' (Houston, Cullen Collection, exh. cat, p.151).
