Catalogue Note

In the present work Hoffmeister wittily captures the character of Tristan Tzara wearing his distinctive monacle. Around him are four images of modern art. Picasso-esoque, they allude to his seminal role as a leading critic and writer on the Modern Movement. Hoffmeister was in contact with many of the leading artists and intellectuals of the day and adept at recording their character in quick humorous sketches such as the present work.
