The painting is overall in an averagely satisfactory state of preservation. It is under a very dirty varnish. The canvas is distended on the stretcher. There is a little hole on the opened page of the book and also a tear of about 1.5 by 0.5 cm on the pages of the right of the opened book. This tear correspond with a patch on the reverse of the canvas. Under UV lamp: Under a green uniform varnish. There is a restoration on the tear previously mentionned.
