Catalogue Note

“By some means or other, Kippenberger obtained a pair of huge old-fashioned underpants (…) it immediately became clear how much he had come to resemble his role-model Pablo Picasso even outwardly. As early as 1985, Kippenberger had used as an invitation card a photo which showed the ageing Picasso, legs apart, in unbroken proud virility and wearing precisely these large underpants, with a greyhound beside him. His own swollen countenance could therefore be wholeheartedly greeted as a sign of growing artistic potency. Kippenberger discovered himself as his own nude.”
