Condition

Overall the condition of the wood is good with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The relief is composed in sections and joints are visible, notably running down the right and left sides (inserts are visible here). There is stable splitting to the wood consistent with material, including to the Virgin's head and to the Saint's body. There is non-active worming throughout, especially to the woman on the left side and to the kneeling donor's right foot, which is partially lost. There are various small chips and abrasions, including to the left woman's sleeves and to the edges of the Saint's drapery. Some of the fingers may be restored. The stems of the Saint's flowers are lost and his proper right index finger is lost. There are some naturally occurring knots in the wood. There are some original inserts, including a larger one above the Virgin's head on the left side. There are losses to the original polychromy throughout.
