Catalogue Note
The heavily pleated garment, belted high above the waist, is typical of Italian wood sculptures representing female saints and the Virgin Mary from circa 1500. Compare, for example, with the dramatic early 16th-century Sienese saint sold in these rooms on 2 July 2013, lot 57.
