of circular section, the domed cover carved in varying levels of relief with a reclusive scholar amidst a landscape and framed with jagged rockwork and swirling clouds, all rendered on a diaper ground, a pagoda and a pavilion set in the background against a diapered ground, the box similarly carved in varying levels of relief with a pagoda between floral and foliate motifs, set in the centre with a recessed circular panel lacquered in black, the interior of the box and cover lacquered in black

Condition

Apart from areas of repainting to the flanges of the box and cover, good condition.
