Description

  • jade
of rounded rectangular form, carved on one side in low relief with a pair of confronting fish suspending from a ruyi-shaped parasol (san), their scaly bodies detailed with fine incisions, the reverse carved with a four-character inscription in seal script reading jixing youyu within a recessed rectangular panel, the cartouche surmounted by a crest formed of a pair of confronting phoenix with undulating tails, the upper centre pierced with an aperture, the smoothly polished stone of even white colour

Condition

There is a very thin 1.2 cm. scratch to the upper left of the inscribed panel, (showing on the illustration in the catalogue) and a tiny pinhole in the plain ground to the left of the inscription (also showing on the photo). There are a few natural icy inclusions in the stone, but overall the pendant is in good condition. The actual colour is consistent, if not somewhat warmer, less grey, compared to the catalogue illustration.
