Description
the tripod censer of archaistic liding form with a compressed globular body supported on three short, tapering feet, the flared lip surmounted by two arched handles, the bronze polished to a shiny gold colour, the base cast with a recessed rectangular cartouche enclosing an apocryphal six-character Xuande mark; the jue of typical form with a U-shaped body supported on three splayed triangular blade feet, the exterior cast with two stylised taotie masks divided by vertical flanges, the bronze with malachite encrustation and simulated age patina
Condition
The censer is in overall good condition. There is some expected surface pitting and occasional dents on the rim. There is some typical oxidization on the interior.
The jue is a later 20th century reproduction after the Shang Dynasty prototypes, with a worn surface and simulated oxidised patina.
