Description

  • Porcelain
with shallow rounded sides rising from a tapered foot to an everted rim, later enamelled on the interior in iron red and blue with two five-clawed dragons writhing among ruyi-shaped clouds vying for a 'flaming pearl', below eight lotus blooms borne on a continuous meandering stem encircling the cavetto, the underside similarly decorated with scrolling lotus, the base inscribed in underglaze blue with a six-character reign mark within a double circle

Condition

The dish has been later enamelled. There is an approx 4 by 4.5 cm restored section to the rim at approx. 5 o'clock and a few further small areas of touch up around the rim, possibly to retouch minute chips or fritting. The rim is warped. There is some rubbing and wear to the enamels on the interior. The actual colour is consistent with the catalogue illustration.
