Condition
Original canvas. Two small areas of craquelure, one in the upper left corner and another to the ivy behind her neck, only visible upon close inspection; otherwise the work appears in good overall condition.
Ultraviolet light reveals localised retouchings to her nose, a small area on her arm and localised retouchings to the background, which are not excessive.

Catalogue Note
'It is sufficient to say that these little pictures of Sir Edward, so carefully arranged, so exquisitely wrought, charm by their daintiness and refinement, and often also by the delicate opalescence of their colour. Nothing that is not beautiful is allowed to enter into their composition.' (Art Journal, 1897, p. 23).
