Condition

In overall good condition. The frame is not illustrated in the catalogue photograph. Some minor surface dirt which would benfit from a light clean.The panel has slipped a bit in the frame and would benefit from re-fixing in the frame.There are construction cracks at the joints of the frame and chips commensurate with age. There is the remnants of a paper label at the back with the word ` CALE..'.

Biagio Barzotti (active 1875-1900) had a workshop at 57 via del Barbuino near the Piazza di Spagna in Rome. He had a contract to execute a mosaic of the Pope, probably Leo XIII (1878-1903), giving a blessing in St. Peter's Square. A later work by him also depicts St. Peter's Square and a third mosaic depicting Pope Leo XIII with Three Cardinals is signed Biagio Barzetti RFSP (Reverend Workshop of St. Peter's) and inscribed on the back 1896 indicating that he was active for a long time at the Vatican workshops.
