Condition
The galleon has been lacquered and would benefit from a professional clean, rigging detached in one place but generally ok, the central mast appears to be leaning forward slightly, otherwise well made and in overall good condition.

Catalogue Note
The inscription reads: 'Launch of S.S. ''San Dunstano'' May 21st 1912. The ceremony was performed by Mrs. Hopkinson to whom this Silver Ship is presented by The Eagle Oil Transport Co. Ltd. as a memento of the occasion.'
A similar silver model of a galleon, also William Comyns & Son, was sold by the Neal Auction Company, New Orleans, 12 & 13 October 2002 , lot 594, the stand applied with an inscribed plaque: ‘Launch of the S.S. San Fraterno, February 23, 1913. The ceremony was performed by Lady Bowring, to whom this silver ship is presented by the Eagle Oil Transport Co., Ltd as a memento of the occasion.’
The S.S. San Dunstano, a steam tanker of 6,238 tons built by Swan Hunter, was the first of 20 such vessels ordered for use by the Eagle Oil Transport Co, a company founded in 1912 by Weetman Dickinson Pearson, Baron Cowdray (see lot 56). The S.S. San Fraterno (11,929 tons) was the company’s third vessel.
