Catalogue Note
These models are probably the ones referred to in Kändler's Taxa or work records for 1740-44 as: 2 Bäre gegen einander sehend, pro 1 Stück...3 Thlr. [2 bears looking at each other, per 1 piece, 3. Thlr.] In the past these models have also been referred to as badgers. A pair from the Sir Gawaine and Lady Baillie collection was sold in these rooms on 1st May 2013, lot 167. A further pair is in the James A. de Rothschild collection at Waddesdon Manor (published by R. J. Charleston, 1971, no. 57, p. 166).
