Persian quatrain on paper in nasta'liq script, laid down on an album page with gold-flecked outer margins, corner and side-pieces decorated with gold flowers
Condition
In very good overall condition, small water stain to lower right hand corner of outer margins, lower left corner cracked and slightly loose, as viewed.

Dede-zade Mehmed Said Efendi (d.1759)
Born in Istanbul, Mehmed Said Efendi was the grandson of Chief Judge Seyyid Mehmed Dede, the son-in-law of the famous Sheikh al-Islam Feyzullah Efendi (d.1703), and therefore nick-named ‘Dede-zade’ (Dede’s son). He studied nasta’liq script under the supervision of master Ismail Refik, one of the best students of court physician and calligrapher Katib-zade Mehmed Refi’ Efendi (d.1768). Dede-zade Mehmed Said Efendi was an outstanding teacher who taught the art of calligraphy to many students. His most celebrated student was court calligrapher Yesari Mehmed Es’ad Efendi (d.1798). He died in 1759 and is buried in the cemetery of the Emir Buhari Dervish-lodge in Istanbul.
