An illuminated Qur'an, Persia, Safavid, 16th century

Arabic manuscript on paper, 455 leaves plus 3 flyleaves, 11 lines to the page written in alternating black naskh script and gold and blue larger muhaqqaq script, surah headings in white thuluth within polychrome illuminated panels, illuminated marginal devices throughout, opening double-page illuminated frontispiece in colours and gold, followed by a further illuminated headpiece for surah al-baqarah, double page illuminated finispiece and falnama, binding reversed with remnants of filigreework  

Re-bound and with some restoration and cropped pages, opening frontispiece with some wear, pages generally clean and illumination bright, as viewed.
