Catalogue Note

Figures of of Pu-tai Ho Shang, known in the West as the 'Laughing Buddha' were produced in a variety of forms in the earliest of European porcelain. A Chelsea porcelain example of a figure from the Katz Collection is in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, acc. no. 1988.780.
