Condition

Very good condition overall with surface dirt which can be easily cleaned. Fine modelling of the marble with dip drilling holes especially to the curls of his wig. A few natural marble inclusions with a 2 cm length chip to his collar and a small triangle lack to its edge. A few minor chips to the edges of the bust. A very minor knock to his back to his nosetip. Remains of an iron fixing on his back with some rusty discoloration of the back of the marble.

Catalogue Note

En 1703, Jean-Louis Lemoyne fut reçu à l'Académie Royale de peinture et de sculpture en présentant le modèle de ce buste du Surintendant des Bâtiments du Roi en morceau de réception (musée du Louvre, inv. no. M.R. 2640).
