Condition

This bronze is a good cast, in very good condition overall with some minor wear to the patina and a few scratches consistent with age and handling. There is surface dirt in the crevices which can be easily removed. The verde antico marble base is later and too large in proportions for the bronze. Very good provenance.

Catalogue Note

Ce bronze semble être une synthèse de deux modèles florentins réalisés par Giambologna en 1576 et 1587, réinterprêtés ensuite par un artiste nordique : on y reconnaît le Centaure Nessus cabré et chevauché par Hercule brandissant sa massue.
