Condition
The canvas is not lined. Some small areas remain unvarnished; these fluoresce under UV light (inherent to the artist's technique). There are scattered zones of shrinkage, most noticeable in the dark brown pigments in the upper left quadrant and in the dark green above the signature. A scratch has led to a 1cm loss near the left edge, just over half way down. Otherwise this work is in very good original condition.

Catalogue Note
Gromaire painted this serene autumnal composition while holidaying at the lakeside home of some friends. The painting depicts the lady of the house, Madame Germaine Gadon and her niece Solange Bonny-Pellieux sunning themselves on the banks of the lake after a bathing session. Gromaire presented this picture to his hosts and it has remained in their family collection ever since.
