- A Marble Head of the Resting Satyr

- Height of head from base of neck 9 3/4 in. 24.8 cm.; height of head from chin to crown 7 1/2 in. 19 cm.; total height with bust, plinth, and socle 16 in. 40.6 cm.
after the sculpture by Praxiteles of circa 330 B.C., turned to the right, his youthful face with full parted lips, the thick unruly wavy hair brushed up from the forehead and falling down behind the pointed ears and over the nape of the neck; mounted on 18th-century shoulders, plinth, and circular socle.

Condition
As described, ancient head inserted into 18th century marble shoulders, including the lowest locks of hair on the reverse, and marble socle. Nose restored in marble. Some remains of paint on proper right side of neck and along some joins where it once concealed these joins. Surface of head and neck worn with surface abrasions, minor chips, and scratches. Face cleaned more than hair.
