Catalogue Note
In a letter dated January 23, 1975, Frank Wood, the artist's brother, talks about the title of the present painting: "This is no doubt a gag, either by Grant or the owners of the restaurant. The Cafe De Palais [sic] is a famous restaurant in Paris--while the picture shows a small rural restaurant and wine room."
