Condition

The following report has been provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc., an independent conservator; This work has been recently attended to. Although the paint layer may still be dirty, the work certainly looks extremely attractive. With Bradford, there is very often staining or weakness to the paint layer; this is obviously not an issue here. This paint layer is stout and healthy, and the paint layer can be seen as the artist originally intended. There has been no weakening over the years. There is no weakness within the vessels, even in the rigging and the shadowed sails. The only retouches are to a group of small losses in the water in the lower right corner. None of these losses interfere with the signature or inscription. The tacking edges of the canvas have been reinforced. The reverse of the canvas has been treated with Beva-371 and a thin gauze like mesh has been applied, but technically speaking this is not a lined canvas. The painting is in beautiful condition.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above.
