Catalogue Note
Ce modèle est réputé avoir été conçu pour Esther Lachmann (Moscou, 1819-Silésie, 1884) qui, après deux premières unions, change son prénom et devient Thérèse, marquise de Païva (le marquis, un noble portugais, sera son troisième mari). En 1871, elle épouse le comte silésien Henckel von Donnersmarck, cousin de Bismarck, qui la comble de diamants (dont deux furent vendus par Sotheby's à Genève en mai 2007). En 1877, soupçonnée d'espionnage, elle doit s'exiler sur les terres de son mari en Silésie. C'est pour elle que fit construit le célèbre hôtel de la Païva au 25 des Champs-Elysées, hôtel dont Alexandre Dumas fils aurait dit: "C'est presque fini, il ne manque que le trottoir".
Elle fut surnommée la Lionne de l'Empire, d'où la concordance que l'on peut supposer avec le modèle de ces couverts. Il figure sur les catalogues de Christofle de 1876 à 1924.
