Condition
The shade with approximately 18 cracks to the glass tiles, primarily concentrated along the lower geometric register of the shade. A few tiles with multiple cracks, though all appear stable. All of the Turtle-Back tiles appear original and undisturbed, with a few small exterior surface flecks to the perimeter borders. The bottom rim is out of round and shows warping, likely due to a prior impact. With a small loss to the leading on one vertical lead line just above the bottom rim (1/2 inch loss). With surface soiling around many of the exterior lead lines and to the recessed contours of the Turtle-Back tiles. The patinated bronze surfaces with light surface wear, rubbing and minor discolorations consistent with age and use. This shade was most likely later converted to a chandelier. All of the accompanying bronze hanging hardware including the ceiling cap appears to be from the period but is associated and not by Tiffany Studios. If desired, this hardware could be replaced with reproduction Tiffany hardware, or could be reduced in length for a shorter ceiling height. With replaced sockets and paddle switches. The chandelier presents with warm red, orange and gold tones that are slightly less red and less saturated than seen in the catalogue illustration. The exterior surfaces of the turtle-back tiles are nicely iridized, displaying luminous golden hues when viewed in reflected light.
