Description
- Jan Zoetelief Tromp
- Potato harvest
- signed J. ZOETELIEF TROMP lower right
- oil on canvas
- 66 by 96cm., 26 by 37¾in.
Provenance
K.K. van Hoffen, Utrecht; thence by descent to the present owner
Condition
The canvas has not been lined. There are some minor localised areas of hairline craquelure. Under ultra-violet light the old varnish layers fluoresce opaquely in places making the surface difficult to read, however there do not appear to be clear signs of retouching (there are two small slightly discoloured areas in the sky to the right which appear to be deposits of surface dirt although it is possible these could correspond to minor areas of discoloured retouching). This painting is in good condition and would benefit from a light surface clean.
The colours in the catalogue illustration are reasonably accurate however there is slightly less of an orange cast overall in reality.
Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
