Condition
The canvas has been relined. Ultraviolet light reveals some scattered retouchings, notably a circa 7 by 8cm area of restoration in the dark pigments to the right of the path and one circa 2 by 4cm area in a tree-trunk in the upper left quadrant, a small area to the right of the signature and some further scattered smaller spots. The old varnish fluoresces opaquely and quite unevenly, somewhat obscuring a clear reading of the surface under U.V. light. The overall appearance of the work under normal light is good, with more contrast between the light and dark areas than in the catalogue illustration, and the painting is ready to hang.
Presented in a decorative gilt frame, with a cloth-covered inner slip.
