Catalogue Note
Throughout his career Boldini encountered many alluring women, the “divinas” who would inspire his paintings and drawings. Writing to one of his celebrated patrons, the Marchesa Casati in October 1909, Boldini references with some “emotion” the sitter of the present work, Eugénie Legrip who he met during the summer while visiting the French spa town of Pougues-les-Eaux (see, Piero Dini and Francesca Dini, Giovanni Boldini, 1842-1931, catalogo ragionato, Turin, 2002, vol. II (l’epistolario), p. 187, note 1).
