Lined. Small vertical repair to upper left of reverse. Under UV: Line of inpainting to address repair and for minor frame abrasion along right hand side. Uneven varnish flouresces green.

Sarah Faunce believes the present work to be by Courbet, begun in his youth prior to 1839 and re-worked by him later, possibly in the mid to late 1840s.
