painted on one side against a gold-ground decorated in raised gilding with C-scrolls with classical figures representing 'The Sciences' and on the other with 'The Greek Scholars', both titled on the underside of the stand, all reserved on a deep blue ground further highlighted in raised gilding with scroll-and diaperwork, palmettes and neoclassical devices, pseudo shield mark printed in blue, AUSTRIA printed in red.

Condition

The knop of the cover has been off and restuck; and there is a small chip along the line of the break. Some occasional minor spots of wear to the gilding of the knop, handles and around the rim; some further very minor rubbing to the gilt border around the foot and the lowere edge of the stand. Otherwise in generally good condition.
