Catalogue Note
Victor Paillard was a sculptor and fondeur Bronzier. He apprenticed under the direction of Jean-François Denière. In the 1830s, he opened his own business of Bronze d'art et d'ameublement at 105 boulevard Beaumarchais and 6 rue Saint-Claude; he was to become one of the most esteemed craftsmen of the century. Paillard exhibited at many of the major international exhibitions and was awarded a medal for his work at the 1851 Exhibition as well as a gold medal in Paris in 1867. He was a member of the juries of the international exhibitions in Paris in 1855 and 1862.
