- Italian, Florence, late 19th century
Provenance
Sotheby's New York, 18 March 1998, lot 190
Condition
Overall the condition of the alabaster is good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is veining consistent with the material: there are particularly prominent striations in the alabaster in areas, in particular, to the proper right arm and head. The figure is affixed to the column capital. Two sections of the bust at the back are carved separately and joints are visible, with some glue residues. A small section has detached from the flowers. The toes on the left foot of the putto are restored. There are a few small chips to the edges and some dirt marks. The column is in good condition. There are restorations to one section, and there are stable open veins at the bottom section.
