Condition
This photograph has Weston's classic presentation for his prints from 1936: it is printed on semi-glossy paper, mounted to heavy board with a slick white surface, is fully signed and dated in an assured hand on the mount just beneath the image, and is titled, numbered, and priced on the reverse of the mount. As one expects from Weston, this print is masterfully realized and incorporates a great amount of detail. The print is in essentially excellent condition. When examined very closely a tiny disruption in the emulsion can be seen on the lower portion of the right edge. In high raking light, two tiny indentations can be made out in the upper right quadrant, and a smaller one in the lower right quadrant.
The mount shows very minor wear on the edges and the corners, as well as slight age-darkening. On the reverse are small losses in the top paper ply along the top and bottom edges. One of the losses is adjacent to Weston's 'Cl' notation, and obscures a tiny portion of the 'l.'
The San Francisco Museum of Art label on the reverse measures 1 3/4 by 2 1/2 inches and bears the following typewritten information: 'E. WESTON,' 'series 1936, clouds,' the loan number '1905.37I,' exhibition date '9.14.37,' and indicates that the print was loaned by Weston. The circular gold foil 1938 First International Photographic Exposition label states that the picture was 'selected for exhibit,' and that the exposition ran from April 16th to 24th at New York City's Grand Central Palace.

Catalogue Note
While Edward Weston listed this image in his negative log, now in the collection of the Center for Creative Photography, he did not note how many prints he made. Conger locates only two prints in institutional collections: at the Center for Creative Photography, and at the University of California, Santa Cruz, both Project Prints.
