single leaf, approximately 140mm. by 200mm., with Orpheus seated on a grassy mound, plucking at the strings of his golden harp as animals (including a stag, an ass, a hunting dog with a red collar, a hare, a lizard, a frog, a snail, a boar and a camel) gather around him and birds alight in the tree above, all above a red-framed box enclosing the signature of “Bernardus Schmidt Arge / Aurelia Gallorini”, verso with the signatory’s coat-of-arms and helm, the motto “Sternat fortunam Virtus”, the date 1559, and a 7-line quotation in Greek from Isocrates', Panegyric, within an ornamental frame, some small stains, else good condition, painted wooden frame
