Catalogue Note

Don José de San Martin (1778-1850) was an Argentine general who played a large part in winning South America's independence from the Spanish Empire. José de San Martin is regarded as a national hero of Argentina and Peru and is considered one of the main liberators of Spanish South America. The Order of the Liberator General San Martin was created in his honor and is one of the highest decorations conferred by the Argentine government.
