  • A FINE AND RARE GOLD GEM-SET AND MOTHER-OF-PEARL PAIR CASE QUARTER REPEATING WATCH DUTCH FOR THE ENGLISH MARKET CIRCA 1720
  • gold, emerald, mother of pearl
  • diameter 47 mm
• gilt verge movement, baluster pillars, winged balance cock pierced and engraved with scrolls • champlevé gold dial with arcaded chapter ring, Roman numerals spaced by green stones, silver dust cap engraved with British Royal Arms • the inner case pierced and engraved with scrolls inhabited by putti and birds, the outer case set with mother-of-pearl cartouches applied with gold openwork scroll motif further set with various green color stones, the gold reserves with openwork foliate motif • dial and movement signed, both cases stamped with casemaker's mark AG

 

Condition

Innner case stamped beneath bell AG, outer also stamped AG, movement number 741 movement runs, repeat strikes however it is out of phase and requires adjustments, screw for bell lacking. Tthe green stones on outer case are a mixture of emeralds and emerald simulants (ie. Glass). There is some slight hairlines to the mothe of pearl.
