Catalogue Note

Second edition of volume 1, third edition of volume 2 and first edition of volume 3. Ramusio's collection of voyages is one of the earliest and most complete, containing several relations not found elsewhere. The first volume relates almost entirely to Africa, the second to Asia and the third to America.

The maps in Ramusio have been attributed to the great Italian cartographer Giacamo Gastaldi, tutor to Ramusio's children. They include the important maps of the Americas, New England and maritime Canada.
