Chancery folio (310 x 208mm.), 120 leaves, a8 b2+2+2+2 c2 [2]c2 [3]c2+2 d2+2 [2]d2+2 e-n8 [o2+2+2] p10, 52 lines, gothic type, 4- and 6-line initial spaces (a few supplied in red), red initial-strokes in first few quires, full-page woodcut frontispiece, one armorial woodcut initial, 7 double-page or folding woodcut plates, woodcut illustrations, contemporary wooden boards with modern half calf spine in period style, two clasps with new straps, a few edges uncut, some early annotations, folding plates of Venice and of the Holy Land with extending sections supplied in facsimile, some worming throughout (repaired in first and last leaf, and in some woodcuts), first two leaves repaired in gutter, boards wormed

Catalogue Note

This important book is the second edition of the first illustrated printed travel book. Breydenbach travelled to Palestine and Mount Sinai in the company of other Mainz patricians and local noblemen between 1483 and 1484.
