Condition

This slightly warm-toned print, on double-weight paper with a surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. There is slight rippling at the upper and lower margin edges. When examined in raking light, the following are visible: a sharp handling crease, not breaking the emulsion, is visible in the lower right corner; and several small impressions that do not break the emulsion, at the left side. When examined with ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

From the early days of LIFE magazine, Time Inc. maintained a separate file of Karsh material, as the photographer's portraits were vital to the magazine and were often used on its covers.  In later years, whenever he was in the Time Life Building, Karsh would visit the Picture Collection to look through his prints and reminisce.
