Condition

The photography is too light: the papier is grey-beige and darker. The drawind is in very good condition. Several traces of folds are visible along the right edge and in the center crossing the dress, and from the upper left corner to the woman's shoulder.

Catalogue Note

Jean-Jacques Fernier date ce dessin des années 1840-1845, et pense que le modèle pourrait être Virginie Binet, la seule femme avec qui Courbet entretint une liaison durable et qui lui aurait donné un fils, Alfred, en 1847. C'est elle qu'enlace Courbet dans Les amants dans la campagne, tableau peint en 1844 et conservé au musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon. Virginie Binet quitta Courbet en 1852, ce qui l'affecta profondément.
