Condition

Overall in very good original condition. This red coloration of this cabinet is a brighter and more vivid brick red hue when viewed in person in comparison to the catalogue illustration. The work presents with a few minor surface scratches and minute edge nicks consistent with age and use. There is a minor nick to the front edge the proper right door, and a few concentrated areas of shallow surface scratches to the lower portion of the feet. Each of the unique portrait works are fronted with a glass panel. The reverse of the cabinet is painted, and the intent of the design is to be used against a wall. The reverse with some minor surface scratches and nicks. The interior of the cabinet is fitted with three fixed shelves. A highly visual large-scaled work by Judy Kensley McKie, displaying an early exploration of painted exteriors that would become a dominant theme in her later designs.

Catalogue Note

IN CONTEXT:
The present lot is among the first pieces of furniture I created that involved imagery and a series of monotypes of faces in the framed areas of the cabinet doors. For the first time, I was trying to combine my painting background with furniture design.
