Catalogue Note
1908 hatte Cuno Amiet sein Wohnhaus auf der Oschwand bezogen. Die Idylle und natürliche Schönheit der Gegend und sich dem Maler en plein air darbietende changierende Lichtverhältnisse und nuancierte Farbvielfalten sollten sein Schaffen zeitlebens inspirieren und prägen. In einer Postkarte vom Mai 1904 versuchte der Maler seinem Mäzen Oscar Miller sein künstlerisches Temperament mittels zweier Zeichnung zu erklären, in welchen er in einem Garten die wechselnden Freuden malt, die ihn in einem Reigen umtanzen. Miller, sich zehn Jahre später auf die Zeichnungen beziehend, sprach von "Amiet, der Flatterhafte, fliegt im Garten umher und nimmt ihn, so wie er ist, überall da, wo er ihm gefällt, [...], Amiet, der Lehrbub, lässt die Motive den Reigen tanzen, um in dessen Fülle selbst den Reichtum zu werden."[1] Beinahe sieht man ihn vor sich, Amiet in seinem Oschwander Garten, inmitten der sommerlichen Blumenpracht, inmitten des Gartenbildes.
