Acquired directly from the artist by the present owners in the late 1990s

Condition

The canvas is relined. The edges are slightly uneven. There is a surface scratch in the top middle. There are some minor spots of paint loss and frame abrasions along the lower right edge and lower edge. There are some areas of craquelure in the lower half of the painting. UV light reveals scattered areas of retouching, with some small spots in the top half and larger spots primarily along the lower edge. The artwork is unframed.

Catalogue Note

Having graduated from the Latvian Academy of Arts in Riga in 1956, Slushnik entered the Artist’s Union of the USSR a year later and became a well-known master of industrial landscapes. In 2003 he was awarded the title Honoured Artist of Russia.
